JUST HOW FAST ARE YOU? Over the past 63 years, Oroville, California has seen the precise point of speed and perfect balance vs gravity and drag, giving countless APBA powerboat teams that rare opportunity to set APBA and UIM straightaway records, running 1/4 mile and kilometer courses. Competition for Region 9 Records is also offered at the venue.

This year is no exception. During the weekend of March 14-15, Region 9 will host the 63rd Annual Time Trials. The Thermalito Afterbay will give APBA members in five categories and three special classes—Stock. Mod, PRO, OPC, Inboard, Junior, Outboard River Racer, Special Event, and K Pro Hydro/Runabout —their chances to raise the bar and achieve not just a personal best, but also the opportunity to enter the national and world on-water speed records books. For two days, performance, engineering, design and determination will meet the ever-changing conditions that nature creates to challenge drivers, crews and their equipment as they work to set new records.

Pre event registration is available via Trackside as well as on-site, in the pits, Friday, March 13 from 4-6 pm. Region 9 cautions all participants of the environmental considerations which include mandatory mussel inspection process and hot water decontamination (if there is any water inside the boat or engine).

It’s almost go-time. Clear your calendars, set your GPS and head to the west coast. The APBA sanction is posted on the website. Region 9 and the East Bay Boat Club plus the Northern California Outboard Club are the hosts and they have provided complete details including directions, location of the required inspections, a full list of officials and the reminder that setting a record gives you “more fame and glory.”
