MOD Rule Change - Ballot Results

The following votes took place last week pursuant to Rule 23 Modified Rule Change Procedure. This rule states that voters must be racing members two weeks prior to the ballot going out AND a Driver must score points in at least two races in a class to be eligible to vote in that class.

Rule 16.6 - PASSED

Current Rule: Any new engines approved for use in the Modified Outboard Category are not allowed to use open, megaphone type exhaust systems.

New Rule: None. Delete the current rule.

Reason: Exhaust systems are covered by class in the Tech Manual.

YEA: 86.11%

NAY: 13.89%

SUZUKI - DF-50 4 CYCLE 50 HP MOTORS - PASSED

Current Rule: SUZUKI - DF-50 4 CYCLE 50 HP MOTORS

Proposed Rule: Delete current rule and remove the Suzuki 4 cycle engine from the list of approved engines in the 850 class.

Reason: To remove the Suzuki DF-50 motor from the list of approved motors in the class. No one has ever raced this motor.

YEA: 88.57%

NAY: 11.43%

125CC Classes - PASSED

Current Rule: None.

Proposed Rule: Any length exhaust adapter may be used between the supplied header and supplied pipe.

Reason: This length is currently unregulated. However, there are different length exhaust adapters that are available. This rule will remove any ambiguity on the legality of different length adapters. the adjustment of pipe length will also allow people to better tune the engine to their propeller and set up.

125CC Classes - PASSED

Current Rule: None.

Proposed Rule: A 3/16" maximum hole may be drilled at the bottom of the end cap of the exhaust pipe to permit drainage of any trapped water.

Reason: To prevent water from draining into the cylinder.

NAY: 0%

400CC Classes - FAILED

Current Rule: Any ignition system is permitted on the OMC and Mercury powerheads. In the event an OEM flywheel ignition system is used, ring gears and rewind starter pawl nubs/lugs may be removed from the flywheels. Balancing is permitted. On the OMC flywheel, it is permitted to remove material and the ring gear. Mandatory minimum weights for OEM flywheels are listed on the class specification sheet. The use of the center hub of OEM flywheels or machined versions thereof to accommodate the use of aftermarket ignition systems is permitted.

Proposed Max Bore: 2.640 Max

Reason: To permit the use of 0.030 oversize pistons.

YEA: 90.91%

NAY: 9.09%

850CC Classes - PASSED

Current Rule: The gear case minimum "S" dimension for the Tohatsu M50D2 is 1.0.

Proposed Rule: Remove the "S" dimension from gear cases used on the Tohatsu M50D2 motor.

Reason: To allow gear cases used on other 850 engines to be used on the 850 Tohatsu.

YEA: 80.00%

NAY: 20.00%
