UIM President visits APBA headquarters

For the first time in nearly a century a Union Internationale Motonautique (International Powerboat Union) foreign president made his way to APBA headquarters.

“I am very happy and proud to here at the APBA Headquarters in Detroit. I took the opportunity while I was at the [International Olympic Committee] annual convention in Quebec City,” UIM President Dr. Raffaele Chiulli said.

New world records set at Smokin' The Sound kilo runs

For the first time in its history Smokin’ The Sound, Offshore race in Biloxi, Miss., hosted kilo runs so racers could attempt to set world records.

“(The kilo runs) added to the show, besides the P-1 teams we had there  It gave the fans something new to look forward to,” race director Mike Mares said.  “It is something they have never seen before.  They have seen speed runs before or radar gun run before.”

A dynamic field of competitors ignited the waters of the Indian River Lagoon during the revived Stuart Sailfish Regatta April 14 and 15.

Following a 15 year hiatus, the Stuart Sailfish Regatta returned to theTreasureCoastwith a thrilling demonstration of high powered racing on the second stop of the 2012 APBA Inboard Hydroplane and Flatbottom circuit.

Friends in a Storm: Desert Storm at 159

Somehow, still images don’t quite convey the atmosphere of a poker run. My last post, just after Desert Storm, (and Rick Mackie’s just before) described the breadth of the activities. We posted some photos of the new boats, both on display and in the water. Nevertheless, there’s nothing quite like going on board and feeling the vibe — especially with friends.
