For the first time in its history Smokin’ The Sound, Offshore race in Biloxi, Miss., hosted kilo runs so racers could attempt to set world records.
“(The kilo runs) added to the show, besides the P-1 teams we had there It gave the fans something new to look forward to,” race director Mike Mares said. “It is something they have never seen before. They have seen speed runs before or radar gun run before.”
“Everybody is excited to see speed and I think now this actually puts a moniker on (Smokin’ The Sound) that this is an actual world record that they were actually able to take a look at and see. Hopefully it will be the start of running the kilo down there no that we got the monument set and they can be verified every year, this could be a benefit for Biloxi.”
This year in Biloxi seven separate records were set.

“Now that we have established and set new (Offshore) records the following years will be more exciting to see if these records get broken,” Mares said.
“This was more or less the baseline. I think possibly with technology and with some of the guys that have seen what was all involved there will be more teams getting excited and wanting to try and break records. Whether or they will be broken remains to be seen.”
