Patience paid off for race teams and spectators at the first day of Pepsi Racing Power Cup Challenge on Saturday, June 16.
The fourth running of the hydroplane boat races in Chamberlain/Oacoma was hampered by wind on Saturday and ultimately canceled at Noon on Sunday. The roar of hydroplanes will be heard again on Lake Coeur d’Alene this summer with a return to racing 44 years after the popular sport there ended.
“We will become the No. 1 race in the United States,” organizer Dennis Wheeler predicted today.
Powerboat racing has lost a strong advocate, a generous spirit and a fierce competitor.
