(Gold Beach, Or)--The Cal-Ore River Racers (CORRA) series makes its annual stop in Curry County in Gold Beach August 19th-20th with a benefit Golf Tournament-Dinner Auction, and Whitewater Hydroplane race on the Rogue River.
'The Napa Auto Parts, Cedar Bend Golf, Cal-Ore Life Flight Gold Beach Lower Rogue Challenge' river race takes place on Sunday, August 20th starting at 10am, and will consist of 4-1/2 laps starting from the Old Mill site to Lobster Creek, and finishing upriver at Huntley Park which serves as the pit area for the event.
The race is presented locally by Jerry's Rogue Jets, McKay's Market, Gold Beach Lumber, Lewis Marine, Ev's High Tech Auto-Towing, RT McGinnis Construction, Lex's Landing, 4-Seasons Marine, The Curry Pilot Reporter, and Curry County Sheriff Marine Division.
On Saturday, August 19th Cedar Bend Golf Club hosts the CORRA 18-hole 'Golf Challenge'open to the public and beginning at 1pm with a shotgun start.
Interested golfers may register the day of the event, or by calling Dereck Ely (541-761-4389). Cost is $250 for a 4-person team including 2 golf carts.
Following the links event, there will be awards and cash prizes, followed by a $10 dinner with no-host beverages, and racer benefit auction to cap the evening off. CORRA is a non-profit group helping to continue a community tradition and event on the Rogue River.
The Hydroplane race is the 6th stop on the summer tour, and features a showdown among 5 racers battling for the season-ending Points Championship led by Roger Sanderson (#B200) of Hoopa, California.
Sanderson saw his 6-race win streak end three weeks ago in Klamath, California as Grants Pass racer Cameron Kirkland (#68) captured his first career victory on the tour.
Kirkland, with the win, is right on the transom of fellow Grants Pass racer Jesse Reinhart (#17) just 91.85 points behind the current second-place points holder heading to Gold Beach.
Michael Dickson (#20) of Willow Creek is third in the points race followed closely by veterans Dereck Ely (#11) and Jeff Lewis (#007), both of Grants Pass.
Rookie Robert Buckman (#05) of Hoopa is in 7th place overall and could capture 'Rookie of the Year' honors with a podium finish.
18 boats are expected to make it to the starting line August 20th at 10am in Gold Beach.
