The smell of gasoline was thick in the air. The engines revved with a ferociousness that could be felt throughout the Burley Golf Course marina, and could be heard from as far away as downtown. With a signal, high-powered speed boats ripped out of the pit to race on the Snake River for the 2015 Idaho Regatta.
More than 300 people were in attendance from places as distant as Arizona, California and Utah.
One Utah family, whose presence has been at the Idaho Regatta each of the 40 years of the race’s existence, showed up to win big in the competition.
Meet the Faulkners.
“We’ve been racing for 45 years,” said Bill Faulkner Jr. “We travel all over the country: Hampton, Va., Decatur, Ill., St. Louis, California, Arizona. This is always our favorite race to come to.”
