La PORTE — Agonizingly close to victory.
That's what Tim Seebold experienced last year in the Formula 1 Final of the Maple City Grand Prix. He led on the last lap before getting passed by Terry Rinker and finishing second.
Fast forward to Sunday, and Seebold got sweet redemption, leading wire to wire and holding off Rinker to win the 30-lap Formula 1 Final of the third annual Maple City Grand Prix on Stone Lake.
“It means a lot because we've come close two other times, but never was able to finish it,” Seebold said. “And the NGK crew did a fantastic job. I've got to dedicate this to my crew. We have all worked very hard and it's nice when all that hard work comes to fruition.”Seebold, of Osage Beach, Missouri, had a relatively comfortable lead for the first 20 laps. Then, Rinker, the two-time defending champion of this race, made a hard charge and closed the gap with about five laps to go. But Seebold never let Rinker get too close, and maintained a sizable cushion en route to the victory.
