INDIAN RIVER — In a short amount of time, Peter Lauer of Harbor Springs will head north to Marquette to begin his freshman year at Northern Michigan University.
He’ll head north after putting together a solid month driving stock runabouts, which includes a solid performance this past weekend at the 65th annual Top O’ Michigan Marathon Nationals along the Inland Waterway.
Lauer, 19, captured his first-ever marathon national title Sunday as he placed first overall in Class 25SSR as the recent Harbor Springs High School graduate finished first back to the finish line at DeVoe Park both Saturday and Sunday.

The win for Lauer came just a couple of weeks following his second straight national championship title in Class A stock runabout in Whitney Point, N.Y. at the American Power Boat Association short coursenationals.
