Jim Sechler of Farmington Hills has won a lot of events and championships in hydroplane racing, but his latest success included an added, first-time bonus.
The owner of the Fast Eddie II powerboat also won the Governor’s Cup at the 14th annual Quake on the Lake July 20-21 at Pontiac Lake in Waterford.
The award, which was reinstated after an absence of nearly 15 years, went to the overall, high-points winner regardless of racing class on that weekend.
Sechler and his team were one of two to win all four heats and accumulate 400 points. The tiebreaker was which boat was closest to the American Power Boat Association record in its class.
