For the second time this season the ‘Cal-Ore River Racers-My Circle-K/Colvin Oil’ hydroplane series has had to make a change to its 2018 U.S. Championship schedule.
CORRA President Jude Hostler announced Thursday the ‘Labor Day Invitational’ held annually in Grants Pass on the Rogue River at Griffin Park has been cancelled for Monday, September 3rd, and postponed to another date, and perhaps location.
“We received notice late yesterday that all County safety and rescue personnel have been diverted to the fires in the Greater Grants Pass area.” Said Hostler.
CORRA is sanctioned & insured by the APBA (American Power Boat Association) which requires specific safety enforcement and medical rescue aid on each race course. The race was to be the 7th and final race in the summer series to determine the
‘High Point’ U.S. Championship standings.
Hostler added, “we are currently rescheduling this race and working with several other local river venues to host the last season race of the My Circle-K U.S. Hydroplane race series.”
Earlier this summer CORRA was forced to cancel the ‘Rogue River Rooster Crow’ race because of low and unsafe water levels.
Longtime and former veteran racer Jeff Laird (#B200) won the last Cal-Ore race
August 19th in Klamath, California. Roger Sanderson, the owner of the #B200 boat, has already clinched the season Title, but there are several other racers contending for a spot on the U.S. Championship Top-5 season finale podium. In addition, two newcomers are battling for ‘Rookie of the Year’ honors.
