BAY CITY, MI The 26th annual Bay City River Roar attracted hundreds of race enthusiasts to the Saginaw River shoreline Sunday, June 23, to watch top drivers compete in the final races of the weekend.

One of those spectators was Mike Cummings of Taylor, a suburb of Detroit. Cummings, who calls himself a “super fan”, has watched speedboat races for more than 50 years.

“My father first took me to watch unlimited hydroplanes race in 1957,” Cummings said. “Now, I give pit tours to children at Detroit’s Gold Cup event. I always love the Bay City races, though.”

Bay City River Roar 2013, which kicked off Friday, June 21, continued Sunday with opening races at 11:45 a.m. and the 30-lap Formula 1 race wrapping up around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. One Formula 1 powerboat barrel rolled and another flipped during the main event.
