CAMBRIDGE — Race organizers called last weekend’s 104th annual Cambridge Classic Powerboat Regatta a success as inboard powerboat racing teams from around the nation competed Saturday and Sunday, July 26-27, on the 1-mile course in Hambrooks Bay on the Choptank River.
An estimated 2,000 spectators caught the racing action from Great Marsh Park, with concession stands operated by a number of community organizations. Waterfront bleachers offered some of the best views of the race course with 11 different classes of boats participating.
Saturday featured heat races in all classes with feature races being held Sunday. Sunday’s winners included Karson King of Bear, Del., in 1.5 Litre Stock; Dan Kanfoush of Niagara Falls, N.Y., in 1 Litre; John Shaw of Succasunna, N.J., in 2.5 Litre Stock; Robert Kennedy of Bear, Del., in 5 Litre; Rob Garratano of Oceanport, N.J., in Jersey Speed Skiff; Paul Fitzgerald of Concord, N.C., in Pro Stock; Duff Daily of Stuart, Fla., in K-Racing Runabout; and Mel Trevochka of Mississauga, Ontario, in the SE class.
Sixty-eight boats registered to race during the weekend plus about 10 J-Stock outboard boats for children to ride for fun.
