Ready your runabouts and set up your skiffs, because the Greenwood Lake Power Boat Association (GLPBA) is planning to return racing to its namesake lake this spring.

According to West Milford Township records, the GLPBA recently requested use of Brown's Point Park for an American Power Boat Association (APBA) racing event during the first weekend in June. If authorized by the local government as expected, the bi-state lake will be hosting consecutive annual race events for the first time this century.

In the late '80s and early '90s, the Greenwood Lake Powerboat Classic was a fixture on the APBA circuit. However, after a race-day cancellation in 1999, Greenwood Lake's one-mile circuit has only hosted two APBA-sanctioned events.

Both the 2011 and 2014 events were well attended, with dozens of racers and hundreds of spectators benefiting from the venue's trademark vantage points and calm waters – so much so in 2014 that Councilwoman Ada Erik said that the addition of a second race date in the fall at the state-owned lakeside park would not come as a surprise.
