HUNTINGTON -- Outboard tunnel racing boats take over the Ohio River at Harris Riverfront Park this weekend in the Huntington Classic Regatta.

Boats in the SST-120, SST-60 and SST-45 classes will speed around the river at 100 mph competing in the Powerboat Nationals for American Power Boat Association regional titles.

Regatta activities begin Thursday and continue through the weekend. Admission to all racing events is free.

SST-120 boats, also called Formula 2, are one of the largest and most competitive powerboat classes internationally. The boats with minimum length of 16 feet are described as amazing in the turns and lightning-fast (80 to 100 mph) on the straightaway.

Powerboat Nationals points leaders in the SST-120 Super Pro Class are Lee Daniel from North Augusta, S.C.; Dave Hensel from Hamilton, Ohio; Jeff Reno of Okeechobee, Fla.; Michael Floyd of Rincon, Ga.; and John Ludwig from Millersport, Ohio.

Dana Tomes of Lesage and the Herd Racing Team competes in SST-120.

ST-60 boats, also called Formula 3, have a minimum length of 14-feet and ramp it up to 85 mph in competition.
