The Wetzel County Commission agreed April 28 to donate $12,000 toward the New Martinsville Records and Regatta Challenge, a donation they had agreed to in 2014.
Sherron Winer, secretary of the New Martinsville Records and Regatta Challenge, along with Dan McConaughey, president of the group, approached the commission to provide a written event report on the event's fourth year, including the request that the commission continue with the agreed to funding.
McConaughey and Winer said the commission's support has "allowed us to return to the unique tradition of record-setting to Wetzel County." Winer said the New Martinsville Records and Regatta Challenge introduced the American Power Boat Association's quarter mile record challenge in 2012 "and since then we have added 83 new record book entries to the original 63."
